The Awakening is a statue/sculpture that was originally installed at Hains Point in the District of Columbia but moved to National Harbor, MD in 2008. The sculpture is of a giant man (70 ft) who is emerging from the ground. The only parts sticking out of the ground are his head, arms, a foot and a bent knee. Each piece is a separate aluminum structure that is firmly buried under the ground. The sculpture was put up in Hains Point for an International Sculpture Conference Exhibition and had not been taken down until the artist sold the work. I also learned that the artist, Steward Johnson, is the same man who did the Forever Marilyn statue in Chicago that was put up recently.
